Abstract

Performance appraisal is a tool used by organizations to determine the rate at which employees perform and is usually measured by the organizations’ growth, progress review and recognition of the society. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of objective production and performance management on employees’ motivation in commercial banks. Data was collected from one hundred and seven two employees and managers that were randomly selected from ten commercial banks with national authorization in Sokoto state. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Online questionnaire which was segmented into three parts was given to the participants. The demographic information was presented in statistical table with clear explanation. The two hypotheses were tested with regression analysis and chi-square tools respectively with the use of SPSS. Each test showed that all variables were significant as the null hypotheses were rejected at the significant level of 0.000. The findings indicated that objective production has a significant impact on employees’ motivation with the p-value of 0.000<0.05. Likewise, the findings showed that performance management has a significant impact on employees’ motivation with the p-value of 0.000<0.05. Recommendations were made to the management of commercial banks to reflect on the use of performance appraisal templates when motivating employees for effective productivity. The study generally meant that employees should not only be motivated based on performance but also based on the documented appraisals of performance.
