Abstract
Verbal behaviors are socioculturally constructed across the societies. Purpose of the study was to examine and compare relations between family sociocultural status and verbal behavior between Muslim and Santal couples in Bangladesh. In so doing, 70 couples from the Muslim and 30 couples from the Santal community were randomly selected from the village Kalna, situated in the Tanore Upazila of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh. Data were collected, using questionnaire method with interview technique. The collected data were analyzed whether family sociocultural status influenced verbal behavior between Muslim and Santal couples, using independent sample t-test and Pearson’s bivariate correlation technique. The findings revealed that the Santal couples were more talkative, aggressive, and socially communicative than the Muslim couples in rural Bangladesh. These verbal behaviors were socioculturally different between the Muslim and Santal couples in Bangladesh. The findings may have implications in future research.
