Abstract

Health is a very important aspect of human and societal life. Health is widely acknowledged, in both developed and developing countries as wealth. The importance of health in economic development of any nation cannot be overemphasized. This minieview paper examined the factors affecting health care delivery services to students in the campuses in Nigerian Universities. Talcott Parson’s theory of social system was adopted as the theoretical framework. Authors reviewed in this paper outlined several factors/challenges encountered by students in a bid to securing health care services within the campuses of Nigerian universities. Some of these problems include poorly trained and motivated staffs, delayed referrals, limited health care delivery resources, poor funding etc. The situation has caused many students to suffer and to seek other means of health care like self medication with its detrimental consequences. In the light of the challenges identified, the study recommended health manpower training and adequate funding to reduce the sufferings of students in search of cost effective care services on their campuses. The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) should also be strengthened to meet the health care needs of Nigerian university students.
