Abstract
This article aims to analyze the social voices that manifest themselves in the novel Torto Arado [1] by Itamar Vieira Junior (2021). This work revolves around the lives of freed slaves in the 19th century, who live together on large agricultural properties where they dedicate themselves to work in the fields. In order to fulfill this proposal, it is based on the Bakhtinian dialogical theory, especially the concepts of style and heterodiscourse (BAKHTIN, 1984 [1929]), with emphasis on the insertion resources of the alien discourse (VOLOŠHÍNOV, V. N.1986 [1929]), explaining the social clashes faced by the characters and the position adopted by the author in the narrative structure.
